BIO-Europe: European biotechnology industry meets in Saxony

For the second time since 2005, Saxony is hosting the largest European biotechnology partnering conference, BIO-Europe, which will take place from October 24th to 26th in Leipzig. As part of a joint company stand, the life sciences location Saxony presents itself with the great breadth and diversity of its industry know-how and as an attractive investment location. BIO-Europe is the established platform for bringing together decision-makers from the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and financial sectors.

Thomas Kralinski, State Secretary for Economics and Labor in the Free State of Saxony: »Leipzig is a hub for innovations in healthcare in Europe. For example, clusters are emerging on the 'BioCity Campus' that drive innovation at the interface between pharma and biotech. BIO-Europe 2022 is of inestimable value for Saxony, because the fair brings together top researchers and decision-makers from all over Europe. Above all, young, up-and-coming companies can make new contacts in Leipzig, cultivate partnerships and further advance medical innovations.«

Thomas Horn, Managing Director of the Saxony Economic Development Corporation (WFS), adds: »Saxony is one of the most exciting life sciences regions in Germany and offers companies from the medical technology as well as the biotechnological and pharmaceutical industries the best location conditions. Here you will find an ideal ecosystem for innovation and growth, which has emerged with the support of the state's biotechnology offensive over the past 20 years. The fact that Leipzig is hosting the international BIO-Europe this year shows that our location is internationally convincing and attractive. From the conference and the partnering that brings investors, companies and scientists together, we expect increased international awareness of the location and thus greater interest from potential investors and business partners.«

André Hofmann, board member of the local host of BIO-Europe, biosaxony eV, adds: »BIO-Europe in Leipzig proves that the city is also in the European Champions League in the field of life sciences. With the support of the city and state, Biosaxony organized a joint stand here, where 18 companies and research institutes from the region can present themselves to well over 2.000 participating institutions from all over the world. And since that is not enough, we are presenting the further development possibilities on the Leipzig BioCity Campus on a second stand - because these will be the basis for the ongoing positive development of the location.«

Burkhard Jung, Mayor of the City of Leipzig: »The BIO-Europe in Leipzig is a very important strengthening of the biotech location Leipzig on the international stage. Scientists who are keen to start a business come together in a large cross-city network with many hidden but very successful companies in Leipzig.«

In Saxony, more than 330 companies and research institutes with a good 15.500 employees are now working on innovative solutions for human health. With companies from the health economy, biotechnology, medical technology, pharmaceutical industry as well as pharmaceutical and medical logistics, Saxony combines a wide range of high-performance players and covers the entire value chain: from research and development to production and marketing to logistics and service.

Together with Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI), the WFS offers an insight into the diversity of the industry as part of a two-day specialist visit program on October 22nd and 23rd. On the agenda of the international guests are B2B talks with innovative Saxon companies as well as appointments at the BioInnovation Center in Dresden and BIO CITY Leipzig. In addition, the Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden (CRTD) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology (IZI) will be visited, where the future cluster SaxoCell will also be presented.
