SMWK: The white paper is intended to provide new impetus for strengthening research in Saxony

Saxon Ministry of Science starts strategic process

Is the Free State setting the right priorities in research policy in the long term?

How can the great potential of the Saxon research landscape be better leveraged?

Which framework conditions need to be changed and how?

Until the end of 2023, these and a large number of other questions will be the focus of a broad strategy process entitled

»White Paper for Research in Public Scientific Institutions«,

which the Saxon Ministry of Science has now started.

Social or technological megatrends such as mobility or connectivity and digitization are not only the subject of research, research also goes through them. Strengths and weaknesses of the scientific landscape in Saxony should therefore be analyzed and highlighted. Researchers, institutes, universities and networks are intensively involved in this process and contribute their experiences in workshops, interviews and online surveys.

Based on the knowledge gained in this way, guidelines for future political fields of action in the Free State in the field of research are being developed. At the end of the white paper process, there should be recommendations that allow research policy to be flexibly aligned.

Science Minister Gemkow sees a great opportunity in the project:
“Our goal is to focus research policy in the Free State of Saxony even more strongly than before on cooperation, innovation and internationalization. With this project, we are pursuing a holistic approach to further strengthen the excellence of the Saxon scientific landscape and to remain competitive in the global competition for cutting-edge research in the future. In the future, well-positioned research and development will make the difference as to whether Saxony is a driver of innovation or driven by the innovations of others.«

The VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH was commissioned with the content and organizational preparation and implementation of the white paper process. The project office in Dresden started work in November 2021. Further information on the project and the contact information for the project office can be found here: Research in Saxony
