City of Leipzig joins biosaxony e. V. bei / branch association has been successfully committed to Leipzig for a long time

The Office for Economic Development becomes a member of the association biosaxony e. V. By joining this central industry association of the Saxon life science cluster, the interests of the city of Leipzig are to be represented even better in the future, existing cooperation and partnerships are to be strengthened and Leipzig companies, clinics, scientific and transfer institutions are to be supported more directly.

A common goal of biosaxony e. V. and the City of Leipzig is to initiate projects between business and science in the fields of biotechnology, medical technology and healthcare. Furthermore, young, innovative industry companies are to be supported, sustainable technology transfer promoted and new, highly qualified jobs created in the medium term.

Together with life science partners from business and science, biosaxony eV has already acquired and implemented a number of projects in and for Leipzig. One of them is the recently opened accelerator program MEDICAL FORGE, which makes it easier for start-ups and SMEs to take the last step towards a successful entry into the German healthcare market and brings national and international companies to Saxony. The recruitment of the central industry event BIO-Europe 2022, which takes place from October 24th to 26th at the new exhibition center, is also a result of Leipzig's previous cooperation with the association biosaxony e. V

Clemens Schülke, Acting Head of the Economics, Labor and Digital Affairs Department: “We would like to further strengthen Leipzig as a biotechnology location. Important steps have been taken: I see enormous future potential with MEDICAL FORGE by bringing innovative companies to Leipzig. With membership in the association, we are consolidating the good cooperation of recent years and laying the foundation for new projects.”

dr Oliver Uecke, CEO of biosaxony eV, welcomes the new member: “In recent years, the Leipzig location has become a motor for the development of the life sciences sector in Saxony. In particular, the constant and successful efforts of the city of Leipzig to create additional laboratory space for spin-offs and growth companies on the BioCity Campus Leipzig play a major role here. We are pleased that we can now further intensify our already fruitful cooperation.”

Of the 136 members of the Saxony-wide association, 46 come from Leipzig. Among them are representatives from industry, research and development institutions, municipalities as well as from the biotechnology, medical technology, hospital and healthcare industry and digital technologies sectors.
