Together with vfa and the VCI e. V. Northeast Regional Association loads biosaxony you at 28.02.2023 sincerely to 24. biosaxony on site on the subject "Orphan drugs - medicines for the treatment of rare diseases" to Leipzig.
Rare diseases – or orphan diseases as they are also known – exist in all medical fields. A disease is considered rare in the EU if it affects no more than five in 10.000 people. There are an estimated 8.000 different rare diseases; in Germany about 4 million people suffer from one of them.
Research-based pharmaceutical companies not only offer medicines for common diseases, but also for rare diseases. To date, 200 orphan drugs have been approved in the EU. The companies are thus responding to the demands of self-help groups, doctors, politicians and the EU Commission for increased commitment in this area.
